iPhone 4 OS 4.2.1 Field Test Mode

If your iPhone is still in lower OS version, you should upgrade the firmware to IOS 4.2.1 now to enjoy the field test mode again.

In IOS 4.0 no Field Test Mode was given.  In IOS 4.1, only the signal bar changed to signal level without any detail information. Now ISO 4.2.1 give all the detail as before with the signal level indicator.

The latest version (Nov 2010) is 4.2.1 (8C148). Some screenshots are attached.

Samsung Galaxy S Field Test Mode

OK, if you want to "Turn on Smart Life" with Samsung Galaxy S, you have to turn on the field test mode first. Here is the secret code to activate the engineering mode or netmonitor of Samsung Galaxy S:

iPhone 4 Field Test Mode

There is no Field Test Mode in iPhone 4!

For iPhone 4 users, the best way to check the signal level status is using the traditional *3001#12345#* code to enter the engineering mode and check the received signal level. However, the code doesn't work. Maybe Apple changed the activation code or it is completely disabled to avoid customer get the acutal received signal strength.

Google Nexus One Field Test Mode

It is a bad news that Nexus One doesn't come with a decent default netmonitor function like iPhone or symbian phones. I don't have Nexus One with me. When I played my friend's one with code *#*#4636#*#* , it only shows you the cell serving cell id.

There is one application called "Netmonitor" in Android Market provides limited engineering mode. Here is the description from Android Market:
